Health Tip Summary
In August ‘25 I began a treatise on health, based on the power laws. Power laws, as described in the September ‘25 post, are the most impactful compenents of whatever you are attempting, or said another way, “first things first.”
Health can be confusing… but it doesn’t have to be :)
Power Law #1 (October ‘25)
Sleep takes priority over all other health activities. Our body removes waste, regenerates, and “recharges” the nervous system. Without sufficient quantity AND quality of sleep, other health practice are minimized. So, 1) keep regular sleep hours all seven (7) days a week, 2) finish eating a minimum of two (2) hours before bed, and 3) minimize bright lights (consider using red lights) an hour before bed.
Power Law #2 (November ‘25 - April "‘26)
“There is no such thing as a healthy sedentary person” (Dr. Gabrielle Lyon). We MUST exercise our bodies if we are to function at our best. The four (4) components of movement are 1) general movement (5,000 - 10,000 steps per day), 2) strength training (lift heavy things… get a trainer to start if needed), 3) cardio/VO2 Max (alternate between Zone 2 cardio sessions and sprint [10 second with 1-1 ½ minutes rest periods] sessions), and 4) mobility work (rearch for the sky, squat, move beyond your normal movements).
Power Law #3 (May ‘26 - July ‘26)
What we eat either builds our health or detracts from our health. While this first sentence would be agreed upon by most people, very few people take that stetement to heart. Rather than restricting calories attempting to lose weight, we would best be served by focusing on the quality of our food… NOT ALL CALORIES ARE THE SAME. 1) eat whole, single-ingredient foods, 2) consume 2/3 gram of protein per pound of IDEAL bodyweight, 3) consume healthy fats (grass-fed beef, grass-fed butter/ghee, avocados, olives & olive oil, some nuts i.e walnuts), and 4) add a few fermented vegetable (raw saurkraut, kimchi, etc).
We also need to consider hydration (basically drink based on your thirst level and use water with electrolytes or a small amount of sea salt). Additionally, supplements are important, but should be minimal and whole-food based (I normally recommend Standard Process, a trusted, high-quality supplier of whole-food supplements).
Note: Some suggest that diet should be power law #2, where when the body is nourished, it is better able to move.
The Next Step (August ‘26)
“The nervous system holds the key to the body’s incredible potential to heal itself” (Sir Jay Holder, M.D., D.C., PhD.). Our nervous system is affected by th above three (3) power laws PLUS many other things. 1) follow the above three (3) areas of health, 2) have some quiet time during the day, and 3) see your chiropractor regularly to remove any spinal interference to the nervous system
Well…
Each day we make hundreds, if not thousands, of decisions. Start small, within your capacity, and as you consistently practice better health actions they become habits, allowing you to do more, be more, and grow your health.
